Array cable clashing is an area that is sometimes overlooked in the fixed offshore wind industry. Either due to time constraints or gaps in knowledge, cable clashing analysis is typically simplified to the lateral displacement of the cable across its length which is then duplicated and rotated to align to cable entry and hang off locations. This simplified approach risks under representing the true response of installed cables and can produce erroneous “pass” scenarios where impacts could be seen.
Through holistic system modelling , Glic Associates is able to capture the complex, non-linear behaviour of the cable, and CPS which in turn dictates the movement of the cable, to better represent how multiple cables within a structure will behave. This is achieved by creating bespoke models to match the installed condition, each cable being modelled individually with multiple CPS and burial conditions, ensuring that cables respond as they would when installed subsea.
Glic Associates ensure that cable clashing analysis is tailored to our clients’ installed scenarios and are protected from clashing and impacts offshore. Increasing the longevity of offshore assets and reducing handling costs for early maintenance or replacement.
